The bottom will be two round cakes stacked with fondant icing. The 2nd layer will just be a cardboard box with one of those lids designed to look like a Mario Tube thing and then I have to make a mushroom and find a figurine to put on top! I can't wait. I am going to start making this next week. I have 3 weeks to finish it. Thank goodness for freezers because surprisingly cakes do well in there!
So here is the cake I will make. It may look difficult but anyone who has made fondant cakes before will say it is like construction paper. You cut out the pieces and stick them into place. It really isn't that hard.
Here was my daughters princess cake. I made the fondant a little too thick so it isn't as pretty as I had in my mind but it was only my second cake ever!
Unfortunately my little sisters Hannah Montana cake (which was way better then the 2nd one!) is on my other computer which is being repaired (if possible at this point sounds like it is going to cost me an arm and a leg). So I know that I am old school and run off a 6 year old dell computer but my 18 month laptop that cost me a whopping $1,799.00 is broken down.... SO NEWER ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER! And why fix it if it ain't broken! LOL!

That princess cake is gorgeous!!! And I can't wait to see your version of the Mario cake!!!
Do you make your own fondant? My mom made her own when she made Kingston's birthday cake, and she said it was pretty tricky to get it "just right". And in my opinion, it was WAY too sweet. But it was her first ever fondant cake, so we were trying to no be too picky.
You did an excellent job on the princess cake! I can't wait to see the mario cake. Your kids are so lucky to have such a crafty Mommy!
